  • ¼ tsp each of salt and ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil (I use avocado oil, but other neutral oils such as sunflower or canola work too.)
  • 3 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
  • 480 ml (2 cups) Beef stock (homemade or water + 3 stock cubes is fine)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree/paste
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced into lengths)
  • 1 white onion (peeled and sliced)
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1 large baguette/French stick
  • 55 g (1/2 cup) grated cheese (I like sharp cheddar)
