- 2 onions (medium - chopped)
- 1 red bell pepper (chopped)
- 5 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp fresh basil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 tbsp dried oregano
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
- 6 oz tomato paste (1 small can - optional; use if your sauce is not thick enough for you)
- 1/4 cup lemon juice (from a bottle; used to acidify)
