  • 1 (15 ounce) can petite diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • (optional) pinch of sugar ((this cuts the acidity of the tomatoes))
