- 3 tablespoons cane sugar, plus ~½ to 1 teaspoon more for the top
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon fine salt
- 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- Optional for serving: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
